Track Star
Removable Parts 7''
Suicide Squeeze
1998
Rating: 7.5 forks and spoons out of 10
I listened to the shit out of the Track Star album "Communication Breaks" when it came out - I had it on one side of a cassette and the first Death Cab for Cutie on the other, and I would just let the thing play over and over in my car. This seven inch falls very much in line with the music from that record, and is damn enjoyable. I've never been entirely sure how to describe this band - the aforementioned Death Cab isn't far off, but Track Star is a little more subdued or mellow with just a hint of shoegaze thrown in there maybe. These guys never got as popular as they should have.

King Tuff - Wild Desire 7'' (Suicide Squeeze, 2012)
King Tuff
Wild Desire 7''
Suicide Squeeze
2012
Rating: 7 running foxes out of 10
King Tuff is setting the world on fire in 2012...everything he touches is catchy garage pop gold. Both sound like they would have fit in well on his excellent self-titled record that just came out on Sub Pop. And there is no weak b-side here - both the front "Wild Desire" and the back "Hole in My Head" have multiple listens written all over them.
And as a side note let me say it's good to see Suicide Squeeze up and running again...they were killing things in my college years of the mid-to-late nineties, and it looks like it didn't take them long to get back on top of the best shit this go around.

Nobunny - La La La La Love You 7'' (Suicide Squeeze, 2012)

Nobunny releases another single, the world listens. Well, a very small part of the world, including me. This is much closer to his last full-length than the scuzzy "MaximumRockNRoll" EP aka it sounds like it was recorded on proper equipment and not a twenty year old answering machine they bought at the thrift store. The A-side, the title track, is stellar and gets an A+ rating from me. The B-side is...weird. Not bad, very mellow pop and not the sort of thing you'd expect from Nobunny. I'm sure this release was very limited and long sold out so just dig around online and you'll find it easily.
